Who we are
In 2017, Filitalia International was designated an Ente Promotore by the Italian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia, as a
stable and efficient non-profit organization committed to promoting the Italian language and
culture in the United States.
The Ente Promotore provides grants from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to public and
private K-12 schools in the seven states covered by the Consulate General of Italy in
Philadelphia that decide to improve existing courses or introduce new courses in the Italian
language.
The Ente Promotore also offers courses to prepare students for the Advanced Placement
(AP) Italian program in Italian language and culture in the United States.
Our Mission
Filitalia” means “love of Italy.”
We are deeply committed to preserving the Italian heritage by encouraging the study of the
Italian language and providing educational events for the community. We believe that the
promotion of Italian heritage contributes to the social well-being of the Italian American
community and strengthens the sense of identity among people who share an Italian heritage
and history.

culture, please visit our Programs section.
Our Language Plan
Why is it important to learn Italian? If you are an Italian American, it will help you rediscover
your roots. If you have no connection to Italy, it will open a gateway to an extraordinary culture
and benefit your professional and personal life.
Over the years, Italian has consistently maintained its position as a widely taught language in
American schools and universities, and the demand for Italian courses continues to grow.
Information for Teachers
If you are a K-12 Italian teacher looking for new ways to improve Italian language instruction
and engage your students, or if you would like to add an Italian course to your program, the
Ente Promotore offers you the opportunity to apply for an Italian Language and Culture Grant
to fund classroom enrichment, school supplies, cultural trips, and anything else that will
enhance the quality of Italian language and culture education in schools.
